Most notably, we've decided to let our contractor's license go and effectively get out of the construction business. We are both pursuing other career goals and have converted InConcrete to an art studio.

We are having much more fun creating concrete art for folks who appreciate the art of what we do rather then competing in essentially the countertop industry. Blech. As such, we are currently booked through October of 2011 for now commissioned projects.

Feel free to drop us an email if you would like to meet to discuss future opportunites to have a one-of-a-kind InConcrete element, would like a studio tour, or need recommendations of other materials or artisans. We're happy to help.

We are also available for hire to assist you in creating your own concrete masterpiece at your home or in our studio... again, email for information.

Below is a sweet looking concrete island/table/work island. It is a cool orangey color similar to the color of stained pine. It was made of special ordered 100% Recycled Blue Glass as all of it's aggregate and sand. It is organic in shape (but symmetrical) and measures approximately 6' x 30". It has 4 magnets inlaid into it at a distance to hold down a set of 18" x 24" (or larger) construction plans. Can also be used as magnetic "paper weights", napkin holders, etc. It also has inlaid a removable pencil cup that can be used for pens, small utensils, whatever you can think of. We had it sitting on an IKEA book shelf (pictured, but NOT included). This could make a great indoor/out door bar, a work island, or table. This piece, if custom, would retail for approximately $2000.00 because of the specialty glass and its size. I'd like to get $500.00 for it, and will take reasonable offers. Because of it's size, it includes delivery. Would have to assess whether or not it could fit going up certain stairs. This piece is also featured in our gallery.

The other piece we are offering is an InConcrete 100% FLAGSTAFF Recycled Glass Vanity with integral sink, faucet, base and shelf included! All for just $200.00. The base is very simple, but will work with bracing to the wall. Or, just put the top on an existing cabinet. 24" x 24". Add $50 to deliver and another $100 to install. We can also ship this item for an extra charge, but I would not bother having the base shipped. This item would retail for at least $600.00 for the top alone.

(Look at previous post for pictures of the making of the bench). For those of you who have not, Laurie's Bench is a very special project we were commissioned to do over a year ago by a local National Park Service employee, Steve. A very dear friend and colleague of his had died in a tragic kayak accident a year or so before, and in order to honor her memory, the impact she'd had, and her love for the Verde River in Arizona, they wanted InConcrete to create a bench that would be placed near the head waters of the Verde River. The very discovery and location of many of these natural springs were found by Laurie. And thanks to Laurie's tireless work - much of it on her own time - this vital source of water to many parts of Northern Arizona is much better off. Yay SCIENCE!

One of Laurie's oldest frends at Granite Creek just below the bench site.

But, now back to the bench. After spending over a year getting to know Laurie as best we could, and visiting the areas she studied, we'd come up with the design for the bench we thought would honor her best. Laurie's husband had had a plaque made that he wanted incorporated in the design and he also supplied us with Jadite dinner plates that had been Laurie's favorite. Because of her important and impassioned scientific work on the springs and headwaters of the area along with the fact that she loved everything River - the obvious theme was to have a river run through the bench. In the bench, Laurie "resides" in the headwaters, and the river flows throughout the bench with Laurie's plates inlayed underneath clear glass "river rocks" to signify water. There are cottonwood leaves, river rocks and pebbles and additional colored glass that makes up the river. The concrete color was chosen to blend as seamlessly as possible with the surrounding area.

Below are pictures of the placing of the bench. Approximately 40 people close to Laurie took the long trek out to this beautiful area. Lots of hands helped to carry and place the bench, and many special stories were exchanged. This was and always will be a very special project for us at InConcrete.

Steve and Shelley help to place the rebar stanchions that will keep the legs to the stool secure.
